Who can join JFN?
Membership is open to independent funders, trustees from private, supporting
and public foundations, and grantmaking professionals.
How much does an independent funder or a foundation have to grant annually to
qualify for membership?
It is expected that each independent member or foundation grants at least $25,000
annually.
What if I want my philanthropy to be anonymous?
All information pertaining to members is held by JFN in strict confidence and
is not publicly disclosed.
Are membership dues tax deductible?
Yes, JFN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which means that your membership
dues are tax deductible in the United States.
How long does my membership stay in effect?
Your membership starts the day we receive your payment (either by credit card
or check) and is considered current for one year from that date.
How many additional members can be under the primary
membership?
Independent funders and private foundations are allowed seven (7) additional
members. Public foundations are allowed two (2) additional members, who must
be individuals responsible for assisting donors with grant making.
Can my membership fee come in the form of a foundation
grant?
Yes, your membership fee may be applied as part of the five percent of your
foundation's assets that you are required to distribute for charitable causes
each year in the United States.
What type of members make-up JFN?
JFN’s membership is a diverse community of independent funders, as well
as foundation trustees and grantmaking professionals from all over the world.
How are membership dues determined?
Dues are determined by the member's annual level of giving. Please see our member
application for details.
Do I calculate my membership dues based on my annual
giving to Jewish causes or my total annual giving?
Jewish Funders Network membership dues are based on annual grant allocations
(vs. foundation assets) by an individual or family foundation. This includes
all giving, not just contributions to organizations supporting the Jewish community.
If I join JFN, are there opportunities for me to share
grantmaking ideas, such as best practices with other members?
Yes, we are always looking for members who have funding experiences that they
want to share either through our multimedia resources (e.g. web site, newsletter,
member discussion groups) or at various programs such as JFN’s annual
International Conference.
Do I have to join JFN in order to apply for a matching
grant through a JFN matching grant initiative?
Yes. However, if you are eligible to become a member of Jewish Funders Network
but are not currently a member you may submit an application for membership
with your matching grant application. Participation in JFN matching grant initiatives
is a benefit of JFN membership and something that we work hard to provide for
our members in order to stimulate new and strategic giving in specific areas
of interest. Membership does not guarantee a match. The project for which you
are applying will be evaluated under the specific rules for each matching grant
initiative.
