Lunch & Learn: In Pursuit of Justice – Defining Community and Responsibility

May 15, 2008, 12:30 – 1:15 PM EDT

Speaker: Aaron Dorfman, Director of Education, American Jewish World Service (AJWS) and author of Tzedakah in Action, a curriculum based on the work of the Temple Isaiah Seventh Grade Fund.

Community. Justice. Tikkun olam. Obligation to give. These are just some of the buzzwords we use in our Jewish youth philanthropy programs. But what do these words really mean? How we do we – and our teens – interpret and understand these terms? Aaron Dorfman will lead us through an exercise built to challenge and stretch our thinking about they ways in which we define community and communal obligation, and then provide tips on how you can bring this exercise and discussion back to your teens to inform their grantmaking process.
