The Neediest Among Us: Helping the Elderly Poor

This program is not currently being offered by JFN.

In 2006-2007 the Jewish Funders Network (JFN) and the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation partnered on a new Matching Grants Initiative, The Neediest Among Us: Helping the Elderly Poor.

The Weinberg Foundation generously provided $2 million to match first-time (or 3 times increased) gifts of $25,000-$50,000 by JFN members to support the Jewish elderly poor.

Through this initiative donors were encouraged to support solutions to the challenges of the financially disadvantaged Jewish elderly in the United States and around the world.

This initiative generated $6.6 million in new funds to support the Jewish elderly poor including, $3.64 million in first-time gifts and $2.97 million in matching funds.

84 first time donors were awarded funds for grants supporting 55 non-profit organizations and agencies servicing the Jewish elderly poor in the U.S., Canada, Israel, and England.
