The Neediest Among Us: Helping the Elderly Poor

In 2006-7 JFN partnered with the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to encourage donors to support solutions to the challenges of the financially disadvantaged Jewish elderly in the United States and around the world.

This initiative generated:

  • · $6.6 million in new funds to support the Jewish elderly poor
  • $3.64 million in first-time gifts and $2.97 million in matching funds
  • 84 first time donors
  • Matching funds for 55 non-profit organizations and agencies

MATCH: The Jewish Day School Matching Grants Initiative

In 2005-2006 the Jewish Funders Network in partnership with the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE) offered matching funds for any JFN members making their first-ever (or five times increased) gift to Jewish day school education.

MATCH generated $26 million dollars to Jewish day schools across North America including $18.2 million in first time gifts and $7.8 million in matching funds. 296 donors supported 159 day schools and 8 day school projects.

MATCH was funded by: The AVI CHAI Foundation, Ingeborg and Ira Leon Rennert, the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, the Alan B. Slifka Foundation and Jewish Life Network/Steinhardt Foundation.

The JFN/Rashi Foundation Matching Grants for Israel Initiative

This program is not currently being offered by JFN.

In 2006-2007 the Jewish Funders Network, in partnership with The Rashi Foundation, presented the second round of the JFN/Sacta-Rashi Matching Grants Initiative. This program is not currently being offered by JFN.

This initiative offered dollar-for-dollar matches for first time grants that directly funded projects in Israel. In total, $1.3 million was granted by 21 donors to 18 Israeli non-profits.
