We have all been affected by Supreme Court decisions in the past week regarding reproductive rights and prayer in school. JFN is a diverse network and members fall on different sides of these debates. Members also have different views on what constitutes an issue in which the Jewish community should get involved with a particular voice. But above all; we are a platform for every member to connect with peers on the issues they care about. We are a network where funders can come together to discuss what these and other changes mean to them as Jews and citizens and what role we want to play as Jewish philanthropists, if any. Â
In that spirit, we would like to hear from you. What support do you need from JFN right now? What have you already done in response to these rulings and what you plan to do? Would you like to share ideas with us so we can help you connect with others in our network? What are the conversations the Jewish philanthropic community should have? Â
To share your thoughts please hit reply to this email, or for a personal conversation reach out to our EVP, Rabbi Rebecca W. Sirbu, at [email protected].Â
We are here for you.

The Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (a JFN member serving the San Francisco Bay Area) has unanimously approved the appointment of Joy Sisisky as CEO, effective July 1. Previously, Joy has served as the Federation’s Interim CEO and Chief Philanthropy Officer, stewarding over a billion dollars in Jewish community philanthropic capital and supporting causes in the Bay Area, nationally, and globally. Previously, Joy served as the Executive Director of the Jewish Women's Foundation of New York, another JFN member.
New Pluralists has announced a $10 million “Healing Starts Here” RFP, which seeks to invest in organizations and networks of, by, and for local communities which are acting together to address divisive forces in a way that reflects the cultures, values, and desires of people who live there. Grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 will support efforts and practitioners ready to be creative and take risks to transform divisive dynamics and build belonging. New Pluralists’ funders include JFN members such as The Klarman Family Foundation and Lubetzky Family Foundation.
JFN member Rachel Hodes of Slingshot wrote in eJewish Philanthropy about five key takeaways from making the organization's "10 to Watch" application process more equitable and less burdensome. (You can learn more about some of the practices she describes on the resource hub for GrantED, a JFN project that works to strengthen relationships between grantmakers and grantseekers in the Jewish community. Sign up for its email list here.)
Also in eJewish Philanthropy, JFN members Gary and Laura Lauder urged philanthropists to follow their lead and put their investment dollars to work doing good. "There are too many problems to solve in our world to let ... desperately needed financial resources just collect dust," they write. (Learn more about impact investing by registering for JFN's July 12 impact investing roundtable and reading our Guide to Jewish Impact Investing.)
