Position Summary

The Vice President of Programs is a critically important role and an opportunity to contribute to JFN’s growth and impact in both the North American and global Jewish community. We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented individual who can grow JFN’s online and in-person programming and, in particular, lead all aspects of our internationally recognized annual conference. The VP will supervise two current program staff members, coordinate with a lay committee, and work closely with the entire JFN team across North America and Israel. JFN prides itself on offering cutting-edge programming that engages our members, responds to their needs, and introduces them to new funding ideas and opportunities. The VP should have an understanding of the organized Jewish community and a working knowledge of the philanthropic and foundation world, as well as experience planning and executing a major conference.


  • Envision and supervise all aspects of programing at JFN including planning, budgeting, and evaluation.
  • Supervise program staff on development and execution of 75+ annual webinars and virtual meetings per year.
  • Work with membership team to strategically develop new programs and evaluate existing programs to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Run all aspects of the annual multi-day conference which attracts 500+ philanthropist and grantmaking professionals, including: Research speakers and topics, develop program concepts, and design creative and engaging educational experiences; Work with lay committees, sponsors, and different departmental staff to program 30+ sessions, including plenaries, workshops, panels, special events, receptions, dinners, and more; Execute all conference operations and logistics, in coordination with outside production agency and other staff, including conference registration system; Work with communications director on conference website and app, program guide, conference marketing, registrant emails, photography, slides and slide templates and other conference-related communications; Manage all aspects of sponsorship package; Budgeting; Evaluation; Site selection



  • Must have experience planning a multi-day conference for several hundred people.
  • Adept leader, experienced in managing/working with a staff that is located in multiple cities and time zones.
  • Strong experience in event planning/production and in developing and delivering adult education programs, both online and in-person, for at least 300 people.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Strong technology skills, including Office Suite (especially Excel), G Suite, databases, Zoom, and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A self-starter; confident in working independently and on teams in a virtual work environment.
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines and be detail-oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time on behalf of JFN and the Programs team once travel resumes (includes national and international travel).
  • Experience working in Israel/familiarity with Israel and its business culture a strong plus.
  • Sensitivity and respect for racial, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural differences.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested.
  • Knowledge of philanthropic practice and Jewish communal issues/people strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with kosher catering a plus.


Salary and Benefits

$130,000 - $170,000 a year, tentative depending on experience and internal budget, with full benefits and all Jewish holidays off.

Overall Function: Principal Objective of the Position

The Jewish Funders Network (JFN) works with Jewish funders at the individual and collective levels to improve the quality of their giving and maximize their impact as they make the change they want to see in the world. JFN leverages the power and the creativity of networks to produce change in the Jewish World.

JFN’s Midwest Director is a dynamic individual who enjoys engaging with others around making meaningful contributions to the Jewish community. Different backgrounds will be considered for the position including experience working with funders and foundation professionals, experience in event planning and/or program creation both in person and on line, and experience in membership growth and retention. The Director will work independently and with the JFN Membership team to cultivate new members, retain existing ones, and offer value for membership. In addition, the Director will work with lay leaders, specifically the Midwest Steering Committee, in managing a wide array of programs designed to maximize philanthropic impact in the Jewish community.

Job Details

This is a part time consulting engagement. The consultant should be based in the Midwest, with travel between Midwestern cities required. The consultant reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Engagement (VP), who is based in NYC. The consulting fee will be commensurate with experience and is in the $35,000-$40,000 range for 15 hours work per week. As a consultant there are no JFN sponsored benefits or paid time off associated with this engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The consultant will serve within the JFN membership department and bring his/her organizational, project management and interpersonal skills to bear on a number of key JFN programs. Specific responsibilities of this role include:

  • Individual Member Engagement
    • Member support and stewardship through individual outreach to existing members via phone, email and in person, when possible.
    • Small group meetings and “fireside chats.”
    • Cultivation of new members.
  • Virtual and/or In-person Event Planning
    • Webinars
    • Local and regional conferences (virtual and in-person)
    • Other networking events and other programs.
  • General Membership Team and Organizational Strategy and Support
    • Participate in staff meetings
    • Provide support to organization-wide events and other initiatives
    • Attend and support the annual conference
  • Staff the Midwest Steering Committee
    • Set the agenda for the committee
    • Work with the committee to establish organization-wide goals vis-à-vis membership engagement in the region



  • Minimum 5 years in program coordination and management.
  • Demonstrated excellence working with complex constituents and expertise with relationship management.
  • Knowledge of the local Jewish communities within the Midwest
  • A self-starter who can design and manage multiple programs, projects, and deadlines.
  • Team player with a positive attitude who executes efficiently.
  • Comfort with (or facility to learn about) different types of content area.
  • Comfort working with wealthy individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings.
  • Fundraising experience a plus
