Special Briefing with The Jewish Agency for Israel on The Law of Return

Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 12:00pm – 1:00pm EDT

Enacted in 1950, the Law of Return is a fundamental aspect of Israel's immigration policy, ensuring that every Jew has the right to make Aliyah and become a citizen of the State of Israel. Recently, some members of the new Israeli governing coalition have voiced strong opposition to a key clause of the law. This clause extends the right of immigration to include the grandchildren of Jews, as well as their spouses.

As the global representative of Jews and convener of the international Jewish community, The Jewish Agency for Israel remains steadfast in preserving the long-standing status quo on issues affecting global Jewry, including potential changes to the "grandchild" clause in the Law of Return. Restricting the law as proposed could significantly impact many prospective immigrants to Israel and carry far-reaching implications for the entire Jewish community.

To gain a deeper understanding of the Law of Return's history and the potential consequences of the suggested amendments, we invite you to attend this special briefing led by Mark Wilf, Chair of the Board of Governors of The Jewish Agency, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Doron Almog, Chair of the Executive of The Jewish Agency, and Prof. Yedidia Stern, President & CEO of the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI). We look forward to your attendance and participation.
