Overall Function: Principal Objective or Purpose of the Position

The Jewish Funders Network (JFN) works with Jewish funders at the individual and collective levels to improve the quality of their giving and maximize their impact as they make the change they want to see in the world. JFN leverages the power and the creativity of networks to produce change in the Jewish world.

JFN’s Midwest Director is a dynamic individual who enjoys engaging with others around making meaningful contributions to the Jewish community. Different backgrounds will be considered for the position including experience working with funders and foundation professionals, experience in event planning and/or program creation both in person and online, and experience in membership growth and retention. The Director will work independently and with the JFN membership team to cultivate new members, retain existing ones, and offer value for membership. We are looking for someone who enjoys growing relationships and networks. In addition, the Director will work with lay leaders, specifically the Midwest Steering Committee, in managing a wide array of programs designed to maximize philanthropic impact in the Jewish community.

Job Details

This is a part-time consulting engagement. The position is based in either Chicago or Detroit with travel (day trips) to other Midwestern cities required. The consultant reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Engagement (VP), based in New York. The consulting fee will be commensurate with experience and is in the $35,000-$40,000 range for 15 hours work per week. As the consultant grows and retains membership, the position itself will grow to include more hours and responsibilities. As this is a consulting position there are no JFN-sponsored benefits or paid time off associated with this engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will serve within the JFN membership department and bring their organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills to bear on a number of key JFN programs. Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

• Individual member engagement
o Member support and stewardship through individual outreach to existing members via phone, email, and in person, when possible.
o Organizing small group meetings and “fireside chats.”
o Cultivating new members.
• Virtual and/or in-person event planning
o Webinars
o Local and regional conferences (virtual and in-person)
o Other networking events and other programs.
• General membership team and organizational strategy and support
o Participate in staff meetings
o Provide support to organization-wide events and other initiatives
o Attend and support JFN’s annual international conference
• Staff the Midwest steering committee
o Set the agenda for the committee
o Work with the committee to establish organization-wide goals vis-Ă -vis membership engagement in the region

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in program coordination and management.
• Demonstrated excellence working with a variety of constituents and expertise with relationship management.
• Knowledge of the local Jewish communities in the Midwest
• A self-starter who can design and manage multiple programs, projects, and deadlines.
• Team player with a positive attitude who executes efficiently.
• Comfort with (or facility to learn about) issues JFN members fund.
• Comfort working with wealthy individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to travel and work evenings.
• Fundraising experience a plus
