Intermarriage, how communities can reach out to interfaith families, and whether or not rabbis will officiate at such weddings, remains a hot topic in Jewish discourse. Recent publications by Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie and by Rabbi Avram Mlotek have sparked passionate debate in the Jewish media.Â
These two rabbis discuss their personal perspectives, why they’ve each chosen to discuss the issue of intermarriage publicly, and next steps for their denominations and the wider community. They are joined by Ali Rose of the Genesis Prize Foundation, which awarded their 2015 Prize to Michael Douglas, whose signature initiative was a JFN matching grant initiative for engaging intermarried couples and families in Jewish life.Â
