The Impact of Megagifts on Philanthropy

In June 2021, philanthropists MacKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett announced an unprecedented $2.7 billion in gifts to 286 high-impact organizations working for social change in historically underfunded and overlooked communities. Repair the World and HIAS were two of the recipients of these transformational, unsolicited and unrestricted grants —  and the implications are profound for both organizations.

Join us for a conversation with Kate Belza O'Bannon (Chief Strategy Officer, Repair the World) and Melanie Nezer (Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs, HIAS) on how they are navigating the benefits and challenges of receiving a once-in-a-lifetime megagift, how they are maintaining and strengthening their relationships with existing donors, and what funders can learn about the role such donations can play in achieving their strategic and philanthropic goals. This conversation will be moderated by Kathy Reich (Director, Building Institutions and Networks, Ford Foundation).
