As you may be aware, the beautiful land of Australia is burning. The country is experiencing the most devastating bushfires in its history. So far, more than 10 million hectares of Australian land has been burned. At least 28 people have died and over 2,000 homes destroyed. It’s been estimated that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date. No superlatives are able to describe the magnitude of this disaster. The damage is incalculable and it’s affecting the entire country.
The Jewish Community of Australia, led by local JFN members and our partner organization, Australian Jewish Funders has organized an appeal to provide immediate help to the areas affected as well as long-term relief and reconstruction.
We would like to support our friends in Australia with their appeal, donations can be made via JFN, please contact either Nan Rossien at JFN or Tracie Olcha at AJF.

Below is a letter from Tracie Olcha, CEO of Australian Jewish Funders (AJF).
Together with the rest of Australia, the Board of Directors, Executive Team and membership of the AJF are feeling absolutely heartbroken about the current bushfire crisis ravaging our beloved country. The destruction and devastation of communities, wildlife, and livelihoods are incomprehensible.
Guided by the Jewish values of Tzedakah and Tikun Olam members of AJF have shown inspiring philanthropic leadership by setting up a communal appeal to show the Jewish community of Australia stands shoulder to shoulder with our fellow Australians to help rebuild their homes, lives, livelihoods and environment devastated by the bushfires.
It is during these times of crisis we are reminded of the power of individuals and communities to make a difference. AJF are so grateful for our partnership with JFN, individual donors, foundations and organisations across the Jewish world who have inundated us with requests to assist with emergency support.
Thanks to our very close and dearly valued partnership with JFN donations can be tax deductible when made through the JFN office. Alternatively you can give to the online campaign co-ordinated by Charidy, however please note tax receipts from Charidy are only valid in Australia. 100% of all donations received through JFN and online campaign will be directed to the Victorian Jewish Bushfire Relief Fund Appeal and will be distributed to approved relief organisations already helping those impacted by the devastating fires.
Thank you so much for your generous support and joining the Australian Jewish community’s response at this very difficult time for our country.
Tracie Olcha
