Henry Foner (Heinz Lichtwitz) was only 6 years old when he left Germany without his family to escape the terror of the Third Reich. He was one of 10,000 Jewish children who was rescued on the Kindertransport program which sent the children to live in safety with families in England. From the moment they parted, Max Lichtwitz, Henry's father, sent him colorful postcards -- initially in German, and later in English when Henry no longer remembered his native tongue --  illustrated with humorous drawings and charming pictures and containing a short, loving message. The postcards were later featured in a book published by Yad Vashem Publications.

We welcome you to join us as Maya Foner, Director of Programs at JFN Israel, speaks with her father, Dr. Henry Foner, about his personal story in a special program for Yom Hashoah. They will be joined by JFN member Martin Herskovitz, creator of "Creating Memory," a free, arts-based initiative for Holocaust education that uses the creative arts and exploration of relatable themes to connect students to the Holocaust in new ways.
