As the war with Hamas enters its fourth month, Israel is facing increased international scrutiny and criticism of its tactics in Gaza, with some questioning the extent to which they adhere to international law. What does international law have to say about asymmetric warfare? What steps has Israel taken during this conflict to minimize harm to Palestinian civilians? How do these measures compare with those adopted by other democratic armies engaged in urban warfare against terrorist organizations? What more can be done based on historical precedents? Is Israel being singled out unfairly? How do Israeli policymakers think about this issue and what role does it play in their wartime decisions? Join Colonel (res.) Dr. Eran Shamir-Borer, Director of IDI’s Center for Security and Democracy and the former Head of the IDF International Law Department serving in active reserve duty since the outbreak of the war, and IDI President Yohanan Plesner, a former member of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, for an in-depth conversation on the evolving legal frontlines of the war.
